Family Day
As we shopped I people watched and saw so many things. Santa even waved at us..Yeah for Santa!!!!!
My prayers are for the family in China right now. I have read it on several blogs. A father went into a diabetic coma and passed away. I am not sure the details but I ask all of you to pray for the family.
I am really looking forward to mall days with LynnMarie and pictures with Santa Clause and going into the Disney Store and the puppy store and all of that fun stuff!

1 Samuel
9 Once when they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh, Hannah stood up. Now Eli the priest was sitting on a chair by the doorpost of the LORD's temple. [b] 10 In bitterness of soul Hannah wept much and prayed to the LORD. 11 And she made a vow, saying, "O LORD Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant's misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head."
12 As she kept on praying to the LORD, Eli observed her mouth. 13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk 14 and said to her, "How long will you keep on getting drunk? Get rid of your wine."
15 "Not so, my lord," Hannah replied, "I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the LORD. 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief."
17 Eli answered, "Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him."
18 She said, "May your servant find favor in your eyes." Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.
19 Early the next morning they arose and worshiped before the LORD and then went back to their home at Ramah. Elkanah lay with Hannah his wife, and the LORD remembered her. 20 So in the course of time Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, [c] saying, "Because I asked the LORD for him."
I have been doing a wonderful Bible Study at church called "The Amazing Collection" which guides you in reading and studying the Bible in 3 years. I can now believe I have really studied the word before now. What I am seeing is how relevant the Bible is. First I studied Sarah and her desire for a child, now I am studying Hannah. I do believe that God will grant us the desires of our heart. It may not be the same way as Sarah and Hannah, but He will provide in ways that are unimaginable. When you past the issues of jealousy and other emotions, its amazing what this peace feels like. I am so glad I am over that and can enjoy this time. I am so thankful for this wait (yes I wish it was shorter) as it is a time of preparation and I am thankful for adoption in general. I have enjoyed reading blogs of families who have been there, done that and although I do not know them, they have been such great encouragement. To have followed the journeys of Laney, Sheridan, Lily, Shelby and many others have taught me so many things and for that I am thankful that these families have allowed me to witness their journey. Thanks friends!!!!!

Tuesday
Have you ever had something stuck in your head and it just wont leave? You try to think of something else but it just keeps coming back? For the past week when I wake up and during other parts of the day, certain words just come to my mind and I am not sure why. Perhaps I have heard them in a song, read them in a book or on a blog but they have been on my mind. Seriously, since last week I have constantly had these words running in my mind

First Friday
Friday evening began with dinner at Fudruckers with Karen L and the Claxtons. I am so glad Michael was able to meet this beautiful family. He really enjoyed watching their sweet little girls interact! We then headed over to NorthMetro for our monthly gathering. We once again were blessed. We spent some time with Tymm and Laura and caught up on what was going on with them which led to talking about the church and the music and what songs I really love. After some socializing, Susan and Dan introduced Matt, who led us in some worship music. Matt is on the worship team at the church. The second song he sang was one of the songs that Tymm, Laura and I talked about. I have no idea what the song is called but I call it the "Oh No" song. If you attend North Metro, I think you will know what song it is. I really enjoyed the music.
The Chapmans shared a video to a song entitled "Glory Revealed". This video included families who are back from China. It was precious and hope all are able to see this amazing, beautiful video.
Craig B from North Metro Church spoke this evening and he shared his heart and the story about his family. Its amazing that we all have a story. Anyway, I cried but whats new huh? When you talk about infertility, the stories usually include the woman's feelings. It was nice to hear the other side. It was honest and I know many of us have shared some of those same feelings. One of the things he talked about was when he went to China to get his daughter, it was not the easiest time. She refused her father. She didn't want anything to do with him. Craig compared this to when we refuse or deny God and how He must feel. That hit home. Such powerful words.
We ended the night praying for a family who is leaving this week to get their 6 year old son and also viewing a video of Craig and his family arriving at the Atlanta airport from their China. What a gift this First Friday community is. I pray that everyone can find this type of support.
Before adoption entered my life, I was a non-public emotional person. Since then, I feel like my heart is literally exploding with emotions and feelings. Oh how I wish you could read my thoughts. I have a hard time putting them into words on this blog. As Rebecca said, this is so much more than just going to China to get our daughter. It is now a passion. It is a new lifestyle. My thoughts have changed. My heart has changed and I know that my life will forever be changed. Adoption has changed my friendships, the way I work and our marriage for the better. It is amazing and God is so good to bring us into this at such the right time. many people will question that in regards to the new wait. But trust me, we are in the right place right now and I will cherish every moment of this wait.

I really do. I don't know why. Perhaps its because I love life, God and my husband. Perhaps its because I am a dreamer and have such hope for the future. Perhaps its because I went to the gym twice last week. I love the fall. I really love my husband. He has been a fabulous husband over the past few weeks and I don't think he even knows it. I have been waiting to tell him how much he rocks but I haven't. He has been so funny with Lucy the basset hound and I often find them chilling together in the living room. Michael has been good at making sure we are not late to events and this means the world to me. His attitude has been fabulous and he has been funny .Michael is just awesome. We have enjoyed making new friends at church and in our small group. We attended tonight and had soup, salad and grilled cheese sandwiches. We have been having great conversations and although are time is limited because of his job and my working nightshift,we have managed to watch a few movies and shows together. I have just really had fun with him lately.
WE have a lot to learn about each other and parenting and during this wait for our daughter in CHina, we have plenty of time to learn. Michael is going to be such a fun dad. I look forward to this wait although I wish it was shorter. I am so glad we have the new family of friends that we have. I am thankful for First Fridays, and the yahoo groups and the families I meet at work....

Family Weekend
Since this is the family blog, I decided to share our family weekend. Michael and I have had a fantastic family weekend. Friday night we went to our second community group and continued our study on Men are like Waffles, Women are like Spaghetti. Its a great book by the way and that's not meant to be a plug. The conversation got serious and its just what I needed. It was nice to get to know our new friends better. After our time there, we ghosted 2 house' s (meaning we took buckets of candy and paper ghosts and placed them on peoples stairs) Many people in our neighborhood have participated and its been fun!
Saturday morning we drove to Ellijay and went to the Apple Festival. Once again, it was wonderful. The weather was perfect (sunny and cool) and the leaves are a changing. Fall puts us both in wonderful moods and we had good conversation on the way up. While we were there, we had a funnel cake and some grilled corn. We did not see or by any apples. We were able to see some animals and you can see that one the slide show below. We got a sign for our yard and just did a lot of wandering. For those in the adoption world, there were ladybugs everywhere. We found some good connections for gifts later down the road. We met a family who adopted a girl fro China and it was nice to talk to them. Later that morning, what did we see? SEXTUPLETS!!! They had quite a crowd and were in 3 different wagons. No, I did not take pictures because a)they aren't my kids) and b) it would annoy me as a parent if everyone took my kids pictures all their lives.. It was cool to see though. There aren't that many sextuplets, I'm sure I have seen them on TLC or something. We ended the day with a visit to the pumpkin patch. Anyway, we had a good day and had nachos for dinner (we had leftovers from Friday night community group dinner).
Sunday morning, we woke up and went to Discovery 2 class (kind of like Sunday School) and followed up with worship service. It was nice to visit with new friends between the 2 services. This week we talked about Joy. What an amazing service it was! I wish you could have all been there. It talked about the difference between happiness and joy! Loved the service!
Sunday after church, I went to get some hay and Michael and I decorated the house for Fall! We were able to get some pictures and the neighbors also came out. We had a good time visiting and had ended the day with leftovers..
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the pictures! We really did have a good weekend! I love FALL!!!
Prayers for a special family

My secret pal rocks

During this wait, I (Amy) joined a few online waiting groups and I am a part of 2 secret pal swaps. We send gifts once a month to pass this time. One of my secret pals sent this last weel and I forgot to post it, I am sorry, I love everything. She reads my blog and has sent me so much encouragement. She sent me a photo much, fall towels, pumpkin bags to put leaves, an encouraging letter, a cookie cutter and a Caterpillar book. She has read the book blog and knew I didn't have this one.
To this secret pal, you rock and you made me smile!

family
Please stay with me, its going to get a bit random. I started thinking about how I looked at other families. I remember meeting couples years ago who had been married 10 years and didn't have children. I remember thinking, "Gosh, I cant imagine that. I have to have a baby before then." I really thought that would be a horrible thing (rest assured I dont think that way now). Now, look at us. It looks like it will be close to that when we have our family. We have so many friends now that have waited even longer than we have for a family and they have been such an encouragement. I do want us to be the best parents we can be and I want the best for our children. I pondered about that today and just had to have a moment with God and share my desires with Him. We would love 2 children. I would love 2 children. I would love a biological baby. I don't have to have these, its just the way I dreamed about things. Is that bad to admit? As I was talking to God this morning, I just simply asked him to grant the desires of my heart, but I know it may not be the way I have planned all my life. We do want a biological child but after many years I can say that I will be satisfied if that does not happen. It feels good to be at peace with things.
This may come across so the wrong way and maybe I should not publish this post but I no longer feel like I have to have a family the old fashioned way. The one thing that has been shown to me during this process is that God's timing for our lives is so much better than mine and then we are waiting God is using that time to prepare us, to show us things, to even change us in some way. I forget that sometimes. I get impatient. I am looking forward to my family. I will say that sometimes I get scared that things will not happen. I think that everyone has those thoughts and I need to admit them sometimes. Then I rethink the promises God has given me and I feel so reassured.
Anyway, these are my (Amy) thoughts and feelings. Many of you I consider good friends and many of you whether you want to or not are considered my mentors. I am thankful for all of you.
I can't wait to share more about the Christopher family.

First Fridays
Friday night we had dinner with a new friend along with the Perry's and the Ladmans at Applebees. We had a great time, and talked about run adoption, work, and blogs. Too fun! Then we headed to North Metro Church for First Fridays and once again we were blessed. We socialized, listened to a wonderful musician and listened to Mr. Tony Nolan speak. His words were just what I needed to hear. We visited with old friends and met new ones..There were many babies to be seen. A special part of our night was seeing Denise. If you remember the story, we met Denise and her family on a Disney Cruise almost 18 months ago. That visit helped solidify our decision to adopt from China. We also were able to visit Marissa, the very talkative child I met on that cruise. What an evening it was! We learned that friends who are adopting from Taiwan are moving to Phoenix and we wish them the best.
We ended the night with some Cold Stone Ice Cream and just talking! If you live near Atlanta and would like to attend First Fridays, please email me and I will get you the info.
I do need to clarify something. During First Friday, I was talking to someone and I mentioned that I thought everyone should be doing this. I didn't mean that I think everyone should adopt internationally. I was actually talking about the process that I am going through. I feel like I talk about this a lot on my blog. I can't believe this journey we are on and what it has taught me and what it has shown me. I used to fight tears and now they flow freely and I love it. Emotions that I have never experienced are popping up and I love it. God's hand has been all over this and will continue to guide Michael and I through this journey of love. "When Love takes you in" is so appropriate for our family. Adoption has become a passion and I can not wait to get LynnMarie home but I also can not wait to see what else we learn along the way. I can not imagine where we would be without First Fridays or adoption. Susan and Dan, thank you for inviting us and thanks for being a part of this wonderful time for our family!
God is good!!!

Reflections
On another note, its been a year since we turned in our application to our agency. A year ago this week, Michael and I were in Colonial Williamsburg celebrating our 5th anniversary. We were playing online at the sister resort of the one we were staying at when the got the wonderful email that we had been accepted into the program. That email really changed everything. We got home and 1 week later we went to our orientation program and started "the paperchase". It felt good to be doing something. It was something that Michael and I could do together and that's what I enjoyed the most. Before our trip, we attended our first First Friday (the monthly adoption support group) which really got us motivated.
During the process we have found a new church, met wonderful friends (too many to mention) and have dreamed about the future. We have named our daughter (LynnMarie) started a collection of books, and have collected squares for her quilt. We bought her first outfit with some of our family and I have participated in secret pal and bib exchanges. I have learned to love consignment stores along with just window shopping at the more expensive stores. I found more websites to search at work
This adoption process has brought us closer together. I remember spending hours cleaning the house waiting for our SW visit. I wish the house had stayed that clean. I remember meeting our SW at a Starbucks in Roswell and having a pumpkin spiced latte. Its amazing what you remember. We have seen families paperchase, get referrals and bring their babies home. I remember watching Laney's family get their referral (the biggest boohoo moment so far in this journey). They showed the video at our support group and I know it made it seem so real to Michael. I remember being at work knowing it was Laney's Gotcha Day and clicking refresh over and over again on her blog. Finally at 6am, the pics were posted and there again were the tears. I had to explain they were happy tears. We watched Sheridan come home. His parents were mentors to us during our paperchase and helped us beat the May 1 deadline.they have helped us far more than just our adoption.
I have met some wonderful blogging friends and have communicated more with my family this year because of the adoption process.
I was able to have lunch with a group of ladies months ago and was so happy to get to meet Maisie and read about Brianna coming home. Today, I read that Chani's family learned about her!
It's been amazing. God has opened doors that I never knew were there. I have experienced more at work because of this adoption. I have watched Gods hand over so many friends and families . I wish this wait was not so long. I wish I could start shopping and planning for our trip. The one positive thing is that if we were were pregnant we would only have 9 months to shopeand plan and with this long wait, theres even more time to do just that. This year has been so awesome, I am looking forward to the next one. I can't believe that at one time in my life I thought adoption was just "a nice thing for people to do". Its such an amazing adventure, I cant imagine not being in this place.

Parenting
Its true, we have finished paperchasing and waiting. Its true that one day we will get a referral with sweet LynnMarie's face and we will go to China to bring her home. Its true that we will be responsible for this child. Yes I have thought about this but tonight I really thought about this during our first small group meeting tonight.
I was thinking about the stuff that isn't exactly fun like discipline and getting shots and when they get booboos and the potential scary stuff like driving. The more I think about those things, the older I feel. But the more I appreciate my parents and what they have done for me..
I can't imagine what life will be like with LynnMarie. I am sure it will be beyond what I dream about. I wonder if she will have brothers or sisters and what she will be when she grows up. I have heard there are amazing books to read and next year we will probably start reading some.
Anyway, thats all. Its 1:40am. Best wishes to the Radicchi family. Rebecca is due to have her baby very soon..

Guest blogger- Living life for the One who gave us life to live
Saturday morning I went for a run. Nothing spectacular but I felt pretty good about myself afterwards. Then I ate some lunch, had some ice cream and did some shopping. All of these things delighted me. Later that evening my wife and I met some friends at a neat little Irish Pub. I'm not sure how it looked on the outside but on the inside let me tell you - I was very satisfied with myself. Matter of fact - from the time I woke up that morning until the time I went to bed I pretty much spent the day doing things that made me feel immensely good about me (except for having to stop off at work on a weekend - not quite sure who I was doing that one for).
I am sure we're all somewhat familiar with the biblical directive to "do everything for the glory of God." I believe you can find evidence of this in 1 Corinthians 10:31 (and probably elsewhere) where it is stated:
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."Okay. I am nothing if not honest so let's be real here. As a Christian - how do I do this? I mean what the heck does this even mean? For example - shortly before writing this I had a sandwich. I ate that sandwich so fast I am pretty sure someone would have had a hard time seeing what was even on it let alone seeing or finding any glory for God in it. I bet God is even still wondering what was on it.
It all boils down to this... Certain things we do in our lives - even as Christians - are really hard to do for the glory of God. They just are. But you know what isn't? You know what act that people commit that I think not only shows the glory of God but exudes it - it just oozes it from every single pore. It's overflowing with His glory. It's got buckets and buckets of His glory and still some glory is slopping out on to the floor because you really just can't contain the glory associated with this act. You know what that act is?
That's right. ADOPTION.
Adoption has to be one of the most selfless acts somebody can take part in. Now I know there is a veritable cornucopia of circumstances that lead people to adoption. And I even know from some unfortunate personal experiences (in some newsgroups) that not everyone that adopts feels that God led them there or even believes in God. But I also know that something like 90% of adoptions are faith-based. Regardless of how you got to the point of adoption and what you believe about God's involvement - one thing is clearly and abundantly seen through this process - God's Glory. I think that God hold's a special place in His heavenly heart for those who choose to adopt since He too is an adoptive Father. We are all adopted through His son Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:3-6):
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will-to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves."I think God smiles really big at those who choose to put aside their own desires and accept the plans God has for them. He beams - grinning like the Cheshire Cat - when He sees you step out on faith, out of your comfort zone to welcome a child in to your home with the open arms and unconditional love that only a parent can give. He revels in pride and pleasure when you readjust, reorganize, restructure and sacrifice so that a child - one child in this huge world of many - may be given a chance to know Him better.
Yes - I really think God has a special spot in His heart for those who willingly say "Use me God. Bring my child to me, wherever he or she may be. Help me adopt." And that is something you simply can't do without showing the glory of God. There's so much of His glory involved in the adoption process that you're bound to get some on ya. You're family will see it. Your neighbors. Your co-workers. They are all going to see it.
If you're reading this on Amy's wonderful site you are probably involved in an adoption yourself. And if that's the case - stop what you're doing - go outside and put your hand up in the air. High as ya can. God wants to give you a high-five.
Me? I am going to go make another sandwich - with a little more glory on it.

Bible Study
We will have the family He promised, we just have to wait patiently. His timing is so far better that ours!!!
Genesis 7:6 Sara said "God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me." And she added,"Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet, I have borne him a son in
his old age"

Books and Blogs
1) I need to share a blog with you that I am constantly reading now. This family moved to Atlanta and I believe he is the Service Programming Director at at the Buckhead Church. They are just cool and adopted a son from Korea a few months ago. When you visit their blog, watch the videos. Make sure you have plenty of time to visit for a while. The blog is Ragamuffin Soul
2)While garage sale shopping, LynnMarie got several new books. You can see them here. I am always looking for new books. She will definitely have quite a collection.
Someone just sent me this link to more books from Chinese children..Check it out at http://momobooks.com/

adoption
Anyway, I started thinking about the process of adoption, which we started almost one year ago.
I asked God to bring something new into our marriage, God led us to adoption.
I asked God for new friends for the both of us, God less us to adoption
I asked God for patience, God led us to adoption
I asked for God to bring me closer to Him, God led us to adoption
I longed for us to be a part of a wonderful church, God led us to adoption
I asked God to teach me how to be a better nurse, God led us to adoption
This process has changed my entire way of thinking. 6 years ago, we were getting ready to get married and had discussed children and all the things you are supposed to talk to. I can assure you that adoption was not even discussed. I can not believe how my heart and mind have changed over the past 6 years. Its awesome.
Oh I know the wait is long. I want a family now. I must be patient. I must not worry over things I can not control. Easier said than done. I will eventually get down over this wait. I hope not, but I must be realistic. I am just going to enjoy it now!
Our LynnMarie is not even here, and I feel like we have had a life changing experience!!!

2) that we will keep encouraging each other.
3) the wait- no need for words
4) recently united families will have a smooth adjustment

We have friends that made an important announcement this week that's just awesome. They have had me thinking. Although we will not be doing the same thing as them, its brought a few more emotions up. With me, you truly never know where those emotions will lead you.

Secret Pal
First Friday
Last night was our last meeting at their house! Why? Because we have outgrown it..How cool is that? We will be meeting at North Metro Church. If you live anywhere near Atlanta, I hope you will take some time to check it out!
It was once again a special time. We have been attending for one year now. Our first meeting was the week before we turned in our application. Its been a great way to meet friends and to gather support for this journey.
We have watched people wait for their babies, get their referrals, travel and come home. Its been awesome. This is such an important part of our journey and we are going to be much more prepared when we travel for LynnMarie.
If you have read our blog, you know that we have been praying for Sheridan and his family. We got to meet him last night. he is just wonderful. He is 2 and so fun!! It was nice to see him. We were also able to say hello to Laney who has been home for a bit.
There were more China babies that I had not met yet. We were also able to have some time to visit and get to know people on a personal level. I wished I could visit with them more than once a month. I have learned so much. It was truly another wonderful evening and I look forward to the growth. I also look forward to the tears, because they are usually happy tears.
Adoption brings out emotions that I had no idea I had. I wish I could explain the connection I have with these new friends. If you are even thinking about adoption, i hope you will consider attending. It's truly a blessing.
You will hear much more about First Friday. When I started my personal blog almost 2 years ago, I talked about finding a passion about something. I never would have thought my passion would be international adoption. God is good. We prayed for friends. I can not describe the new friends in my life or what they mean to me. I really can not imagine not being in this process right now!!!

Babies Babies Babies
Well its that time again. Many families are seeing their families for the very first time. Agencies started making phone calls today and send pictures.
For my family and friends who are just learning about this process, once your agency gets the information its translated. You soon receive "THE CALL" where you learn a lot of info of your child. Then you get a picture, and wait on travel approval. The day we get "the call" will be a day of celebration.
Please and stop by and see these families who just saw their precious child for first time!
Michael and I will be getting the same information one day. How exciting is that?

the red thread goes to Africa sometimes
This week at work I took care of a patient who had a craniotomy which is another word for a big operation on your head. This patient was adopted from Ethiopia. Oh what a family. I wanted to share their blog with you but I would like to ask them first. Anyway, this family does not live in Atlanta, they live in Orlando, about 10 miles from Michael's moms house."M"s dad is in seminary there. I may get to see them again one day. The grandparents live in Nashville, very close to where my parents used to live. They are strong Christians and also share a love of contemporary Christian music.
This family is amazing. As I read their website tonight, I was moved. They spent 5 weeks in a house in Ethiopia waiting for their precious daughter. They embraced the culture and spent a lot of time with a lot of the people there. She was very tiny and weak and had to get stronger for the doctors to release her. The first night I took care of her was rough. We had a very hard time getting this sweet girl comfortable. I enjoyed getting to know them and was able to spend some time talking to this family this evening. What a joy!
"M" is their first child, just like us. They encouraged me during our wait and shared the joy they had when they first saw that precious face. The process of the Ethiopian adoption is a bit different than a China adoption, but we had one thing in common. THE WAIT. We talked a bit about the wait and what an awesome thing adoption is. This family has so much love and support.
I hope they read this and know what an impact they had on me.
Just another one of those moments.
